The Monastery of St. Catherine, situated at the foot of Mount Sinai in the Southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, between the Gulf of Suez & the Gulf of Aqaba, dates back to the middle of the 6th century & is one of the oldest in the world.
• It was built on the suite of the Burning Bush by the Emperor Justinian, following pressing requests from the Hermits & monks living in the Sinai desert, who being often attacked by the Saracens, appealed to the Roman Emperor for a fortified Monastery where they could successfully withstand all assaults.
• The excursion to the Monastery of St. Catherine is very popular among visitors to Egypt not only on account of its geographical situation, but also for historic & ecclesiastic reasons.
